Aldehydes are the sparkling, almost soapy materials that made the great classic perfumes shine. First by Van Cleef & Arpels uses them the traditional way, as a bright, polished glow around a big floral bouquet.
That bouquet has layers. Rose and jasmine give it a full center, while narcissus and hyacinth add distinctive, slightly green shades. Citrus and fruit touches bring lift at the top. Underneath, sandalwood and vanilla provide warmth, dry and smooth wood beside a soft sweetness.
It’s carefully structured and unmistakably composed. This is not a simple fresh-flower scent, so if you prefer minimalist perfumes it may feel like a lot. But for a formal lunch or a family occasion, that complexity is the whole point.
The Eau de Toilette is sold in 3.3 oz.
