Salt and caramel in a perfume? R.E.M. makes it work. Named after a song on Ariana Grande’s album Sweetener, it’s the most unusual scent in her lineup, dreamy and salty-sweet at the same time.
Caramel, fig and quince open it, and a pinch of salt gives the sweetness a savory edge you don’t expect. Pear blossom and lavender come next, and the lavender brings a clean, calming note that keeps it from reading as pure dessert. Musk, sandalwood and tonka bean make a creamy base that stays close to the skin.
Because of that salt-and-lavender contrast, it moves easily from daytime plans to a quiet night in. The lilac bottle, shaped like a cluster of crystals, plays on the space-and-dreams theme behind the name.
It’s an Eau de Parfum, offered in 1.7 oz and 3.4 oz.
