Abyat is a Gulf house, and its name is the plural of an Arabic word for a line of verse — which tells you what it is aiming at before you ever smell anything.
The modern Emirati and Saudi perfume houses grew out of a tradition that never used the French model. In the Gulf, fragrance is not a designer accessory sold beside handbags; it is oud, amber, rose and musk, worn heavily, layered, and bought by weight from shops that mix to order. Houses like Abyat take that tradition and put it in a bottle a western shopper recognises.
What you get as a result is usually stronger and sweeter than a European release at the same price, and the concentration is often Eau de Parfum or Parfum rather than Eau de Toilette.
Less than you think. A Gulf Eau de Parfum applied like a European Eau de Toilette will follow you around a room for the rest of the day — one spray on clothing rather than three on skin is the usual advice, and cold weather suits these compositions far better than August.
